About Us

The Harford County Forestry Board was established by Maryland law in 1943 and operates today as a chapter of the Maryland Forestry Foundation in partnership with the Maryland Forest Service.

Our Mission

The Harford County Forestry Board advances forest conservation, restoration, and stewardship in [County] through volunteer service, local engagement, and coordination with the Maryland Forest Service and the Central Forest Conservancy District Board.

Partnership Statement

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources and the Maryland Forestry Foundation are formal partners
united by a shared vision for Maryland’s Forest Conservancy District Boards and County Forestry Boards.
Through the Maryland Forest Service, the Department provides statutory authority, professional forestry
leadership, and statewide oversight for the Forest Conservancy District Boards established under Maryland
law in 1943. The Maryland Forestry Foundation serves as the umbrella organization for County Forestry
Boards, providing structural support, financial transparency, and shared resources that strengthen volunteer
capacity and local engagement across the state.
Within this framework, statutory governance and organized volunteer service operate in close alignment —
connecting statewide direction with coordinated, county-based action. Together, this partnership builds a
strong and enduring network committed to conserving, restoring, and sustaining Maryland’s forests for
present and future generations.
